PROTOCOL

STUDIO ATTIRE

Beginner Levels: Snug fitting leggings, shorts or bicycle-shorts, t-shirts, tasteful tank-tops, leotards, loose knee-length or short skirts. White cotton socks or poodle socks.

Novice to Championship Levels: Yeates Academy black shorts and black t-shirts, or plain black shorts with black t-shirts. White cotton socks or poodle socks. Hair longer than shoulder length must be tied back away from face.

Not allowed: Long "jazz-style" pants and denim jeans, or denim skirts as they are too restrictive. Dancers must be able to move freely. A dancer who comes to class in jeans or denim will be asked to change into shorts.

SHOES

All dancers must wear ghillies for soft shoe dances and hard shoes for the hard shoe step dances. Boys and girls shoes are available at the studio.

COSTUMES

A dancer who wishes to perform or enter competition must wear a school costume. All dancers are required to have a costume appropriate for their dance level for the yearly recital.

Beginners (girls) will buy a simple and inexpensive school costume, which includes a purple velvet skirt, a short-sleeved black leotard, a silver shawl, a headband and black tights for performances. This is a simple costume and will cost in the range of $75-$100. When entering a feis (competition) dancers must wear white poodle socks.

Beginners (boys) wear black pants, blue shirt, black tie, black socks and a black belt. For more information, please stop by the studio office and pick up a sheet on class costumes.

Some used costumes are available in the studio office for purchase. We will be glad to sell used costumes and shoes in good condition. Contact the office for more details.

STUDIO CLOSURES & HOLIDAYS

We will keep you apprised of any and all studio closures through email communication. The studio will be closed the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th , Labor Day, October 31st (Halloween), Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We will always be closed on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

Monday through Friday
We will follow the school closures for the local public schools of individual studio locations.
We do not offer make-up classes when we close the studio due to inclement weather. If the weather is bad and the studio remains open, i.e., public schools are open, it is entirely your decision whether you attend class or not. Caution! Students who travel into Portland from outlying areas, please remember if the weather is bad in your area, stay home. Please do not put you or your child’s life at risk by trying to make it into the studio.

Saturday
We will NOT hold in-person classes if a studio location’s local community events are canceled. If you attend class on Saturdays, you will be notified that a decision has been made to cancel classes. This decision will be made by 8:30 am on Saturday morning. Please listen to the weather report and if you are unsure, please text (after 8:30am). When classes are canceled due to extreme weather conditions we may invite Saturday dancers to participate in Zoom classes.
